Bude Wedding Photographer Local Guide & Venues
Firstly, I should admit that because I live in Bude (and was married here myself), I may be a little biased! But there’s nowhere quite like this place, from the beaches, the cliffs, to the wonderful and unique venues to get married in.
As a Bude wedding photographer, I can help you through everything you need to know: from where to marry, when to visit, how to plan, and all the little details you may not have thought of.
I’ve photographed couples from all over the country in Bude, and one of the things that makes it so unique is the variety of beautiful locations, all within just a few minutes of each other.
Whether you’re saying your vows in a beach hut directly overlooking Sumerleaze Beach, or in Bude Castle with the coastal views in the background, Bude offers so many choices to make your memories special.

Bude Wedding Locations
If there’s one thing I love about being a wedding photographer in Bude, it’s how much variety there is right on my doorstep. Whether you’re dreaming of a historic castle overlooking the sea, a relaxed beach wedding or an intimate registry office ceremony followed by portraits by the beach or on the cliffs on the amazing South West Coast Path, Bude has some wonderful options.
Here are three venues I’ve had the pleasure of photographing and would happily recommend!
Bude Beach Hut Weddings
One of my favourite things about photographing weddings here is how much variety you can fit into a short amount of time. Within minutes we can create photographs on the beach, along the dunes, beside the beach huts and up onto the nearby cliffs, giving you a timeless wedding gallery that feels varied without taking too much time travelling between locations.
Also, it’s ideal if you have little ones or guests who may not want to walk too far between the ceremony and portraits.

Bude Castle
If you’re looking for a balance between elegant historic architecture and breathtaking coastal views in the background of your wedding ceremony, a wedding at Bude Castle may be just what you’re looking for.
After the ceremony, the gardens give a lovely setting for family photographs, and the hills behind the castle give a stunning coastal backdrop to your portraits.
The nearby canal, and Summerleaze are also within easy reach for romantic portraits later in the day. You’ll get the best of both worlds without needing to leave Bude.

Bude Registry Office
Bude Registry Office is perfect for couples planning a relaxed, intimate ceremony, and the choice of many couples who wish to come to Bude to get married.
One of its biggest advantages is its location, with some of Bude’s most spectacular portrait spots only a few minutes away. After your ceremony we can head to the beach, canal or cliffs, so we can create a varied collection of photos while keeping your day simple and stress-free.
If you’re planning an elopement or just the two of you, my husband Julian and I are also happy to act as your witnesses, to take the stress from having to find people on your wedding day.
Essential Planning Tips for Your Bude Wedding
One of the reasons Bude is so special is that each season has its own mood. Here’s a few little tips so you know what to expect.
Most importantly: build extra time into your timeline
Travel to popular towns like Bude often takes longer than expected. It’s a good idea to allow extra time in summer!

Where We Can Create Beautiful Portraits in Bude
Every wedding is different, so depending on your venue, the weather, the time of day, and who’s with you, I’ll suggest locations that fit naturally into your wedding day. Here’s are a few of my favourite spots in Bude.
Summerleaze Beach
Summerleaze Beach is one of Bude’s most iconic locations, and it’s also my favourite place to be in Bude. As a family we spend a lot of time there, in all seasons.
With the wide sandy beach, the breakwater and views across the Atlantic, we’re lucky to have backdrop that works perfectly for wedding portraits. It’s also beautiful in the evening, where you’ll have a much quieter beach, and softer light to make natural and romantic portraits
Whether you’re getting married at Bude Beach Hut Weddings, Bude Registration Office, Bude Castle, or The Falcon Hotel, it’s an easy location to include without taking too much time away from your guests.

Bude Castle Gardens
If you’d like some of Bude’s history in your wedding photos, the gardens at Bude Castle are a perfect option, where it’s surrounded by mature trees, seasonal flowers and the historic castle itself.
It gives a very different feel from the beach, but is literally a few minutes’ walk away. Just behind the castle is one of my favourite spots, where you’ll find a beautiful panorama of Summerleaze Beach, the breakwater and Bude Canal.
I’ll often recommend starting here for family photos before heading down to the beach or Compass Point, and if we have the weather and timing are on our side, it’s an easy way to have beautiful garden portraits and coastal scenery in your wedding gallery.
Compass Point
Compass Point offers some of the most spectacular views anywhere in Bude. It’s perfect for couples who love coastal scenery and don’t mind a little uphill walk. I always say it’s worth it when we get there! After this, we can walk to the breakwater and the beach area in front of it (tide allowing.)
Because it’s more exposed, I usually recommend visiting when the weather is more settled. But if you want to brave the elements for some windswept, cinematic photos we can create something really special too.
It’s also a great place for us to take some drone photos if the weather is good, where we’ll get beautiful panorama photos of you featuring in Bude’s beautiful coastline.

Why Should I Choose a Local Bude Wedding Photographer?
As a wedding photographer in Bude, I know the area in every season. I know which spots are quieter during summer holidays, where the best evening light will fall throughout the year, and the little places and hidden corners that many visitors may walk past. Whether it’s suggesting a portrait location five minutes from your wedding venue or adjusting the timeline because of the tide, local knowledge helps your day run more smoothly and lets you spend less time travelling and more time to enjoy your day.
